VIDEOGAMES = ART?

"Artistically, videogames are inferior to film and literature"
- Roger Ebert, film critic and newspaper columnist

"I don't think they're art either, videogames".
- Hideo Kojima, game developer behind the popular "Metal Gear Solid" series

Whether or not videogames constitute art is an argument that has been and will be debated for some time. But can videogames themselves inspire great art? That's the question tackled by the twelve artists behind Artcade, a collection of works inspired by the unique qualities of video games. A new pantheon of heroes, extra lives and power ups all shape a world that these illustrators, comic book artists and designers have chosen to reflect in the pieces produced specifically for this show.
